Hot stamping and cold stamping process

The current stamping technology is divided into hot stamping and cold stamping.

Hot stamping technology refers to transferring the foil to the substrate surface by heating and pressurizing the foil with a special metal hot stamping plate; And cold stamping technology refers to the method of using UV bottom oil to transfer hot stamping foil to the substrate.

Hot stamping products have good quality, high precision, the image after hot stamping is bright and smooth with high surface gloss. The edge of image is clear and sharp. What’s more, hot stamping foil supply a wide range of choices, there are different colors of hot stamping foil, different gloss effect of hot stamping foil, and hot stamping foil suitable for different substrate.

Application:

Hot stamping foil is composed of polyester film (PET) and multiple layers of chemical coating on its surface. Polyester film is usually 12 micron thickness, some of the role of the coating is to produce decorative effects, and some of the coating used to control the properties of hot stamping foil, different coatings are applicable to different substrate. The purpose of the aluminum layer is to produce a reflective effect. The aluminum layer is formed when the aluminum wire is sublimated after being melted at high temperature and condensed into the hot stamping foil under the condition of ultra-low vacuum.

Cold stamping is a kind of printing technology. It uses special glue (ink) to adhere the cold stamping anodized aluminum except the base layer to the surface of the substrate to achieve the effect of hot stamping. Moreover, the cold stamping technology does not need to use the heated metal plate, but uses the printing adhesive to transfer the metal foil. The cold stamping technology has the characteristics of low cost, energy saving and high production efficiency. It is a new technology that meets the needs of the processing market in the future.

The plate making speed of cold stamping is fast, the cycle is short, and the production cost of the hot stamping plate can be reduced, and the speed is faster and the efficiency is higher.

Application:

Cold stamping foil is the product of an innovative technology; it can be printed in multiple colors, shines with a metallic texture, and gives an impression of luxury.

Compared to hot stamping, which involves pressing foil with a mold, cold stamping involves the use of a screen for off-set printing.

This enables printing that is not possible by hot stamping — printing of gradations, fine lines and characters.

A combination of metal foil and off-set color printing can produce designs like photographs in various brilliant metallic colors in addition to gold and silver.
